Many are referring to Netflix’s Emily in Paris as the Gen Z Sex and the City. Whether you love or hate Emily’s style it is something that we are all talking about. With all the hype surrounding Emily’s fashion sense I started to think about the other fashionable Emily’s that came before her:

- Best Statement Blazer/Sweater/Vest:
Is It:
Winner is: I know this is not a popular opinion but I think Emily Gilmore takes the win! While the other contenders are fashion forward for their time; their attire is too trendy and will become outdated fast (as some are outdated already). Emily Gilmore’s sweater is different with the versatile colors so will add pop to an otherwise dull outfit and someone (meaning myself) would have worn this in 2000 as well as in 2020.
2. Best Work Attire:
Is It:
Winner is: This battle of the work wear is a little unfair as Emily Gilmore famously did not work and Emily Fields worked typical jobs that anyone worked in high school (there aren’t really any options to dress like a work fashionista at your local coffee shop). The clear winner is Emily Charlton! I LOVE a wrap style dress and in this instance in which the pattern of the dress goes with earrings she is wearing is a win no contest. Emily Cooper’s outfit looks like she is trying too hard and it comes off as night out with too many trends going on at once. Take a lesson from the Emily’s that came before you!
3. Best Coat:
Is it:
Winner is: This one is a draw for me. Each one of these is amazing in it’s own way:
Emily Charlton: Top prize for making your coat a part of your outfit rather than just a cover for your outfit. Outdoor dining is not going away anytime soon! Your coat is not just a layer over the real outfit anymore- it’s part of your outfit now.
Emily Cooper: I love a puffer coat! I actually was looking for this exact coat as soon as I saw it on Emily (it’s sold out BTW). Makes a puffer that is typically plain and bulky fashion forward.
Emily Fields: Great jacket if you are dressing down. One of the fashion rules I abide by is have your coat match the dressiness of your outfit- don’t wear a Burberry trench with sweats nor a puffy jacket with a formal dress.
Emily Gilmore: She commands the room with this on! I am hoping the fur is faux though. No one looks more like HBIC than Emily Gilmore in this coat.
4. Best Pajamas:
Is it:
Winner is: This one is totally unfair to Emily Charlton as the only time she is seen in any sort of dress down attire is when she is in a hospital gown. Emily Fields and Emily Cooper’s looks are cute but basic. The clear winner here is Emily Gilmore- who else can look as commanding and classy in her pajamas drinking alcohol??? No contest here.
5. Best Formal Dress:
Is It:
Winner is: Emily Fields by a landslide! Her evening wear shouts couture- This Michael Costello gown (from the Fall 2015 collection) is the clear show stopper of the crew.
Emily Charlton this way to basic for you! I am sure Miranda Priestly forced this dull gown on you. Emily Gilmore- great attempt but you can and have done better. Emily Cooper’s gown is giving major Carrie Bradshaw vibes. As the phrase typically goes imitation is the best form of flattery but this is not the case for Emily Cooper. To imitate a style you should attempt to put your own spin on it not do a sub-par knock off of the original (Miss Cooper is no Carrie Bradshaw no matter how hard she tries- as shown by her take on the statement dress).
6. Best Quote: I know this is not fashion but these ladies have some great one-liners worth discussing.

Quote is about fashion so points for her!
Can’t knock this as I have said variations of the same thing. Just replace the word wine with margaritas (Cinco de Mayo), green beer (St Patrick’s Day), or a cosmopolitan ( on a day where I have had 3+ meetings back to back and it’s before 1 PM- aka a typical Friday in my world).
